Lamb of God – New Album…

Lamb of God - ResolutionLamb of God have officially confirmed the title and track listing of their forthcoming sixth studio album. The album will be named “Resolution” and is scheduled for release on January 24th 2012.

Somewhat strangely, at least one track on the album is set to feature a choir and orchestra. Drummer Chris Adler told Gun Shy Assassin, “Yeah — there’s opera singers, a whole symphony going on — it’s crazy,” … “We were trying to figure out how to not be black metal but do something totally different. I think we succeeded.” Continue reading

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

In 1996 there was no other band in the UK who could create ticket demand such as that of Oasis. They were at the height of their game culminating in playing to 250,000 people across two nights at Knebworth Park in the August.

At this point, Oasis had released two albums Definitely Maybe and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? containing songs entirely written by Noel Gallagher. Jump forward 15 years and Oasis has since disintegrated in a flurry of their typical media mis-quotes and arguments between the Gallagher brothers.

The remaining members of Oasis including Liam formed Beady Eye and have already released an album and toured the UK. Noel waited two full years from Oasis’ demise before releasing any new material. This album is the fruits of that hiatus. Continue reading

Exit Ten – Give Me Infinity (2011)

Exit Ten - Give Me InfinitySurprisingly it’s been three years since Exit Ten’s excellent debut album Remember The Day was released. It’s been a firm favourite of mine which has seen the song “Fine Night” topping my Last.FM overall top tracks chart over other much longer established artists. It’s fair to say then that I’m a big fan of the band and have been awaiting the release of follow up Give Me Infinity with baited breath. Any artist’s second record has a lot to live up to and this one in my eyes has an absolute stormer to beat. Continue reading

Rihanna @ SECC, Glasgow – 10th October 2011

Rihanna on stage at SECCI know what you’re thinking…Rihanna!?, on musicscramble.co.uk? Well as it turns out tonight proved we aren’t just about rock and metal, though admittedly it does seem that way most of the time! Put simply: good music is good music regardless of genre and tonight was an exercise in proving just that.

So, we find ourselves in the SECC at exactly 19:30 when Scotland’s own Calvin Harris starts proceedings with a blistering hour-long set which got the crowd into a frenzy; even finishing with current number 1 single, ‘We Got Love’ featuring Rihanna….only for a bizarre reason she didn’t feature. Doesn’t make sense to me why she didn’t either appear to sing it, or the song was moved and played as part of her main set. But it wasn’t. A bit weird. Continue reading

Opeth – The Devil’s Orchard

The slightly mad, but equally brilliant Opeth are back. And unsurprisingly, they’ve surprised all with their direction on new album Heritage.

Below is the video for lead single, “The Devil’s Orchard”. Brilliant.

Machine Head – Unto The Locust (Special Edition) (2011)

Machine Head - Unto The LocustI bet Machine Head wished they had never released The Blackening. Various folk I’ve spoken to plus many comments across the Internet regarding 7th studio album Unto The Locust all say the same thing – “It’s not as good as The Blackening“. It’s a real shame and quite unfair as it’s puts an undeserved negative spin on an otherwise excellent record.

But let’s be fair shall we? The Blackening is an amazing record. Any artist would sell their whole families let alone their grandmother to create something as monumentally good as that. The good news about Unto The Locust is that it shares a lot in common with its predecessor in its grand sense of scope, longer songs and excellent instrumentation amongst other aspects. There are only 7 tracks on the standard edition of the record, but the shortest of those is 5:44 and none breach the 8 minute mark bar the opening track. It’s actually very good lengths for the songs as they suck you in, yet don’t outstay their welcome. Continue reading

Nirvana – Nevermind : 20 Years On: A Personal Retrospective

Nirvana - NevermindAs a young misguided youth, I was a raver. I cringingly remember in fact correcting a teacher in school when he said I listened to rave and I made him change it to “hardcore”. I’d always been partial to a little guitar though, but was never interested in the screaming hairy guys shouting at me and so I’d never heard much in the way of guitar based bands. Now I think of it, actual bands, not just a bloke on a computer. But one day I was handed a C90 cassette with Nevermind on it and my life was changed forever. It seems like such a cliché to say that, but in my case it’s absolutely true.
