Free Straight Lines Track

Straight Lines - Freaks Like UsFollowing yesterday’s free Soulfly track offer, today XtraMile Recordings have released a free Straight Lines track called “Freaks Like Us”.

I’m a huge fan of the band and featured their first album Persistence In This Game in my “8 Albums You’ve Probably Never Heard But Should” feature, so I urge you to grab the freebie, check out the video for forthcoming first single “Half Gone”, and go buy the first album too!

You can grab the free song directly from XtraMile Recordings landing page.

“Freaks Like Us” is the title track from their second album, due for release on 23rd April.

Straight Lines – Half Gone

Cracking up and coming alt-rock outfit Straight Lines have released a video for their first single from the forthcoming second album. ”Half Gone” will be released on February 13th via Xtra Mile Recordings.

As yet untitled, the second album should see a 2012 release and I couldn’t be happier as first album “Patience In This Game” is one of my favourites of the last few years. Continue reading

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

On Boxing Day, potentially one of the biggest movies of the year is released. “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, is directed by David Finch, and – most importantly from the Musicscramble viewpoint – has a soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

I am a massive fan of Trent Reznor’s work under Nine Inch Nails as well as his other projects and soundtracks such as last years “The Social Network”, and so I was excited to hear that not he and Ross would be scoring the movie. As part of that score they have covered Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Immigrant Song’ with the help of Karen O of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s. Now that part I found a little disconcerting as I really don’t like them very much at all, but I’m very happy to report that they have come up with a potential masterpiece here. Continue reading

Megadeth – Public Enemy No. 1 [video]

Megadeth have today released a video to accompany new single ‘Public Enemy No. 1′.

It is taken from new album TH1RT3EN which we will be reviewing next week. However, I was about to post the video when I stumbled across their Halloween performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel. Watching Dave sing as Frankenstein was too much not to post in addition to the new video!

Opeth – The Devil’s Orchard

The slightly mad, but equally brilliant Opeth are back. And unsurprisingly, they’ve surprised all with their direction on new album Heritage.

Below is the video for lead single, “The Devil’s Orchard”. Brilliant.
